Architect specifications

How do architects go about choosing the product specifications they will be using in their blueprints. Is there any sort of resource, website etc. that assists them in choosing the product they advise the builders to use?

I don't think architects choose the products, they just design it

it is the architect engineers that figure out how to build it.
