Can employer give you no hours if you put in two weeks notice?

My wife works part time, 28 hours a week. on Feb 1 she put in her 2 weeks notice. She was told today the company has no hours for her on next weeks schedule, tho the remaining employees hours stayed the same. Can they do this?

If you provide your employer two weeks notice - the employer is not required to keep provide you any hours during the two weeks - in fact, when an employee provides two weeks notice, the employer can inturn advise the employee that they are accepting notice, but instead of two weeks, it would be immediate.

Unfortunately for your wife the answer is that they are not required to give her any hours. Once notice is given the employer can decide to terminate them immediately.
