Can we reduce an exempt payroll cycle to 72 hours?

In 2008, we started to pay our salaried employees on a bi-weekly basis. The first payroll was for 80 hours. Unfortunately, it included 12/31/07. This has resulted in the same day being paid twice. The financial impact is considerable and we are proposing reducing one payroll to re-capture this overpay. Can we do that? Does this violate any FLSA rules form exempt employees?
