Can your employer fire you on your first day back to work form a doctors note?

I was sick when my boss went on vacation and i was manager on duty . I gave her all my doctors notes that was going to have surgery. I had emergency surgery that Friday and stayed in the hospital for 3 days. The day i was released from the hospital i got a doctors note saying i can return to work in 10 days. After my 10 days were up i returned to work and the same day i was fired.
