Do I have a legitimate complaint?

A gay coworker of mine(Jason) has been spreading false rumors that my husband(Dave) made sexual advances toward him. Jason is claiming that Dave exposed his penis and asked for oral sex. Jason has repeated this story to all our coworkers and the story changes every time he tells it so everyone knows he is lying. Our manager is well aware of the situation and how uncomfortable I am but has done little more than tell the entire staff to keep personal matters private. It has been over a week since I reported this to the GM and no action has been taken.

Yes! Gay or straight isn't the issue here. This is malicious, distracting and inappropriate talk for the workplace. It makes you feel uncomfortable and could be considered harassment and defamation. I would write a formal letter to the GM so you have proof that you have brought this to his attention and let him know if he does not address it that you will take further action (meaning tell his boss).

Good luck!
