Do I have to pay an agency fee if the employee abruptlyleaves

An employment agency provided an employee for a job and the employee left after only 9 days at the job because he did not like the job. now the employment agency wants me to pay the fee for the employment placement. the employee did not give notice. there is a question of whether the agency did a through enough background review of the employee. do I have any defenses for nonpayment?

Sounds like to me you still have to pay, because there was some work that was done.
