A large change in the economy like we have had recently actually opens up some opportunities for people in ways that the economic boom of the last decade didn't. I read a news story about a cobbler (you know, the shoe maker type, not the dessert) business in Florida that was doing better than they had in 20 years. This is because instead of going out and buying new designer shoes every couple of months, people were taking their old designer shoes and boots into the cobbler to have them repaired.
The types of business that do well in this economy are the ones that save people money. They may not be glamorous, but the opportunities are out there. Second hand items, repair industries of all types, mass transit, cheaper vacation options like camping; these are all examples of what is working right now. If you can find a way to make something cost less money for everyone else, you will be on the right track!
