What is the difference between weekly pay vs semimonthly?

I just started a new job, my salary 36,000 get paid semimonthly, my hr is trying to cheat me my calculating my actual pay by dividing my pay by 52 which should only apply if I was actually being paid weekly.

36000/24=1500/2=750 weekly
36000/52=692.30 per week

What is the difference between the 2 modes of payment.

As the name states, weekly is paid every Friday, semimonthly is normally paid on the 15th and the 31st. Check with your local Job Service Office or Labor Dept in City Hall

Semi monthly is not 1500 / 2----= $750weekly.. there are not 4 weeks in each month... it is
24 paychecks per year... some are 2 1/2 weeks.. some under 2 weeks, (example february.. 15 and 28th paydates)

It is exactly the same amount... you just receive a bit larger checks less frequently on semi monthly..(this can change your taxes withheld as well)
