A dental assistant helps the dentist as he performs any treatment. They prepare the treatment rooms, instruments, supplies and work alongside the dentist. Some can take x-rays if they have the proper certification to do so. They basically are the dentists right hand. They are with the patient before, during and after the dentist treats them. They are responsible for sterilizing instruments, set up and disinfection of treatment rooms when treatment is complete. Most keep track of supplies and order them when necessary. They may take dental impressions, cement temporary restorations, discuss treatment plans ,collect and review medical hisory of patients. They definitely can do a lot of different thigs.
