Previous employer doesn't exist anymore

How do I handle a situation where a previous employer was acquired by a company after my leaving the position and the current company didn't get any records of any former employees at the time of purchase?

Basically, it leaves nobody to contact (other than professional references) to verify employment.

I worked for the company from 1995 through 2000 and falls in the 10 year history rule that is usually acceptable in the resume process.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
