Receiving holiday pay if followed by vacation

An employee is entitled to July 4 holiday pay which falls on Friday this year. She is requested and was GRANTED vacation for the following week by the employer. Now the employer states she will lose the Holiday pay because she will not be at work the following work day. This is in Mississippi. I understood the rule to be if the employee had a SCHEDULED day off before or after a holiday, then the employee would receive the holiday pay. Please help. Also, this has happened in the past (just last year) and the employee received the holiday and vacation pay.

Hmm. Sounds odd to me. A lot of people plan vacation time around holidays to maximize their vacation. Unless the manual has been updated since last year, I would think that you have a case to take up with your HR department. If everyone else gets that holiday paid then you should as well.

I'd talk to your HR people.

I have always heard the same thing Hamlet. As long as employee is in pay statas, they r to be pd.
