Hotel Manager, Resort Manager and Cruise ship Manager salaries are going to vary on a rather large scale.
Hotel Managers are typically on a salary plus commisson basis. It will depend upon the type of company in which the hotel is owned. Occasioanlly an independantly owned hotel will pay a higher salary than a corporation. Many factors come into play when determining the appropriate salary for a hotel manager. A few of those factors are years of experience, type of hotel experience, size and location of the hotel, and the goal or direction of the hotel as well as how many years the hotel has been in operation, and the type of hotel. Some hotels are rather large with many operating departments and others are very small supplying rooms only and no other services. Also keep in mind that a Hotel is different from a Motel, in that Holiday Inn is different from Motel 6.
A typical salary varies from $60K to 120K depending upon the above listed factors and prudent companies attach a commission based on revenue and/or NOI.
A cruise ship manager must obtain different certifications and have specific training in a resort setting. A cruise ship is virtually a city on water where the captain is the ultimate manager of the whole ship and each department has its own divided professionals including a Chief Purser which is the hotel manager and salary varies from 60K to 70K. The Chief Purser must have no less than 5 years extensive hotel experience and manages all departments on board with the exception of the deck and engine.
A Resort Manager must also have extensive hotel experience, a hospitality degree and manages all departments within the resort. Resorts are typically owned by corporations and salaries can range from 90K to upwards of 170K depending on the size of the resort and extent of the postion. Most of these higher paying resorts can probably be found in some casino style setting or more recently timeshares. Some resorts are dvided into rooms vs. club house where the resort manager would manage only the rooms divison side of the operation and all the managers and supervisors that encompass those departments.
