After raising the Max age from 35 to 39 in 2005, the army discovered that many of its new older recruits were in better shape when entering then many of their younger recruits, they opted to raise the max age to 41. Basic training is a bit different for a 40 year old recruit than a 20 year old, but is still quiet grueling, so they will want to be sure your heart can take the strain. If your doctor has written a letter to them stating he/she feels you are capable and healthy to do so, you will likely be submited to a battery of tests by a military cardiologist before enlistment can be approved, ultimately it up to the enlistment cardiologist as to whether or not it is worth the armys time and money to consider you. If the doctors have any doubts at all you will likely be denied. Kudos to you for making this step in your life, you must have something to offer or you would not even being considered for this new and exciting older recruit program. Good Luck to you!
