Withholding cash register shortages from paycheck

Upon hiring, an employer has required an affidavit be signed stating that if cash register has a shortage monies will be withheld from paycheck. Employer has taken monies from paycheck claiming a shortage. Is this indeed legal?

Yes this is legal . but they better have the paper work to back them up in case they make a mistake in there counts . before the clerk gets the money!
