As a beneficiary can i have funds taken out of stocks and put into cd's?

I recieved a trust at age 60 but the principal, 600,000, is in mutual funds and real estate.Far too risky at my age since I have little other income . Besides the bank trust officer charges 8.000 a year.
I would like the principal to be put into CD's to protect it from the vagaries of the stock market. There is way too much risk here and i don't know why my mother left this like this. What are my rights?
Can i insist on a buy-out?
