Can a pearson with a life tenancy leave half the property to their child?

My mother inherted property with a house in Texas from her mother. Her mother's husband has a life estate/tenancy. He says his daughter will inhertit one half of the property upon his death. I say my mother the (remainderman) is the sole owner after his death according to the deed. My mother is the only name listed on the deed after the life estate/tenancy.
