Can we get a restraining order against my husbands ex-wife?

My husbands ex-wife came to pick up her kids last night and started a verbal argument with us and threatened me and my husband. We called the police and they came over and made her leave, but my step-kids are scared to live with their mother because they think she is "crazy". Is there anything we can do?

Yes, you can file a restraining order if she is threatening you, and you can also file for temporary emergency custody of the children at the same time. If the judge feels the children are in physical or psycological danger then this will most likely be granted, but a court date will be set for you and your husband to prove the order should remain in effect, and her to try to show why it shouldn't. You will have to go in front of a family law judge who may appoint a Guardian ad-litem to the children and order counciling etc... Keep a journal with dates and times and everything her and the children say, when you have to call police etc..
