Contractor Fights Owner for Cash in Wall

Http://news.aol.com/story/_a/contractor-fights-owner-for-cash-in-wall/ 20071213090709990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001

I think the contractor should be happy with a 10% finders fee, what do you guys think?

If a court ordered him any amount of money on the "Finders Keepers" law, then would that be saying if he found anything in the house (say the owners lost diamond ring) he could keep it? Not fair.

It should go to the guy who actually owns the house. When you buy a house, you buy the house and everything in it, including small fortunes.

I bet he will wish he took the 10%, he may not get anything if this goes to court.

That's what I was saying, I don't think owner could be ordered by a court to give him anything. The law he is sueing the owner under is called the "finders keepers" law and refers to buryed treasure on public land. I don't think somebodys house counts lol

And this guy was a "contractor" - he was hired to do a job. Yes, he discovered a bunch of cash, but the money legally belongs to the homeowner.

so if a contractor discovers cracks in the foundation while working, does he claim partial ownership to that problem?

I know my analogy is not the same, but this guy should be happy with a 10% finder’s fee. I hope this contractor walks away with nothing . . .

Think about this . . . i'm sure this same exact situation has happed to someone else, but the contractor decided not to inform the homeowner.

I might be thankful enough to give the contractor 25 %, the home owner would have more than likely never have found it otherwise...just an opinion
