Copyright question

If there is an ebook which states it has a "secret formula", is it copyright infringement if I tell a friend on the internet what the formula is even if I don't copy verbatim?
Thank you.

No there is no copyright protection in ideas or information itself, only the creative expression of those ideas. Also, its not copyright infringement if you share your ebook with your friend, it is a fair/nominative use exception to copyright infringement

Formulas cannot be copyrighted. That is why the formula for Coco Cola was kept secret for so long. They finally revealed their formula; it includes leaves from the cocoa plant but with the cocaine removed. If you worked for the company that holds the secret formula you could be in trouble or the person that gave it to you.
