Copyrighting my 3 CD's

I need to copyright 3 cd's. I have been sitting on my music for some years now and decided to go into the studio to lay down one of my songs. The guy picked up and moved with my song. I have seen several different prices and ways to copyright my music. But I just need a simple answer. I have about 30 songs to copyright.

1. Can I copyright all 3 cd's for $45.00?
2. Do I send 10 seconds and a lyric/music sheet of each song or the
song in its entirety?
3. What is the $100.00 later thing?

You could copyright everything together as a single work, but the potential problem down the road is when you try to release or sell the rights to any individual song. From a legal standpoint, it could get very complicated.

You will need to send or electronically transmit a copy of the entire song and a copy of the lyrics. Either the complete sheet music or a recording of the entire song is acceptable.

The $100 fee you are referring to is probably pre-registration, which is not required and most of the time not useful except in very specific circumstances. Your songs will still be fully protected under U.S. copyright laws without have to pay this fee. Go to www.copyright.gov for more info.
