Yes, you need to put the fathers name on the birth certificate.

Otherwise, he would have legal right to the child, and you would have legal right to get child support money out of him.

They will ask you the name of the father and either you tell them so that there will be a name there for the benefit of your child or you don't and when your child gets older and has to have acopy of their birth certificate and there is no name what do you tell them? And why should this man not be financially responsible for your child? It's very hard to be a single mother these days and that child deserves everything that life has to offer. The father can financially support the child and still give up his legal rights to the child ( meaning that he does not have any rights to the child) But what ever you decide I hope that you always put the needs of your child first and there will be plenty of things that your child will want and need and child support money will help out greatly...

I'm with Sidelko - you should to put his name on the birth certificate so that if at any time he needed the support, you could get it.

Yes, just because the father's telling he won't be financially responsible, he's still the father.

Put his name on the birth certificate, so if you need to get child support someday you'll be able to.

Even if the father denies that the child is indeed his, a DNA test will prove he's the father.

Legally you do not have to put his name on. If you want no contact with him ever again, which includes giving up child support, and you don't want him to have visitation rights then don't put him on. In a year or two or 10 if you decide you need child support then you can make him get a DNA test, but he will be able to get visitation rights then. Being a single mom is hard, but there is a lot of help out there for you if that is what you decide. Don't let money make you decide what is best for your child.
