Best of my knowledge any pay you recieve from the goverment is exempt from garnishment. If your are putting only SSi or SS inyour account it becomes a government acct and they cannot freeze it or take it . He may be trying to intimadate you because he know you do not know the lawyer If your pay is low enough you can qualife for legal aid. I suggest you contact them immediately.

If yoiur bank does not know the law you may have to have it spelled out for them. You can change banks If not enough time cancel the direct deposit have it mailed to you. You will still have your money it may take a day or two longer

If he has a valid garnishment, which the bank states it is, then they do have to homor the garnishment. SS is exempt from garnishment from SS admin , but your bank account is fair game, as many seniors have found out the hard way.
What was this garnishment for? What is for his representation of you in a SS hearing? Did you know it was coming? You could have had the check sent directly to you, instead of direct deposit.
Without details, I can't provide further information. When did you have noticeof the hearing and then judgment? did you appear in court to defend yourself? in other words, what happened?

I wonder what happens to a direct deposit if you close your bank account before it is electronically sent? Does it bounce back to t he sender? I will have to call my bank and ask them that question.
