How do I find if a stolen motorcycle has been registered to someone else?

In 2003 I co-signed for my son to buy a Harley Davidson motorcycle. In 2004 he could no longer make the payments so he privately turned it over to someone else to continue with them. He did not do this through Harley Davidson. The man he turned the motorcycle over to never registered it in his name or made any payments. We reported it to the Arizona police where he lives, but he no longer has the motorcycle. Harley Davidson is now coming after me for the more than $15,000 still owned on it. Is there any way to find out if someone else has the motorcycle and registered it?

Number 1, be careful who you co-sign with. even if it is your son.

it could be hard to track who owns it. you'd have to go through the DMV of most the 50 states to see if you could find it, and if they would let you at the data.

but as far as HD is concerned, you owe them money, bike or no bike.

this may be a bad situation for you to be in. maybe you could take your son to small claims court to offset the costs of this

I can't take my son to small claims court as he doesn't have the money to pay me.
He lives close by, we have a good relationship and this is the only time something like this has happened.
It was suggested to get an investigator to try and find the motorcycle. I'm not sure where to look for one. Any suggestions would be helpful.

You could take your son to court and garnish his future wages.

There are probably a bunch of private investigators in the yellow pages you could talk with. just make sure they are good and have a good reputation. like google them to see if you find anything about them
