you could see if your now ex-roomie would give you the security deposit out of his money since he will be getting it back when he moves out.
how much was it? was it enough to fight over?

How do i get my security deposit back?
I recently moved out of my roommates home appartment which we rented together. when i moved out (he and his girlfriend continue to reside) the landlord refused to return my deposit. since then a new roommate has been found and i am still left without my deposit.

To whom did you pay the deposit? The roommate or the Landlord? If you paid it to the roommate then that person is responsible to pay it back to you if your living space in good condition and gave adequate notice to vacate. If you paid it to the Landlord and they checked your living space and found it to be clean, then they should reimburse you. You may have to wait though if everyone was on the lease until they vacate said premises....Good luck
