How is compensation for a legal guardian determined?

A person has selected me to serve as attorney-in-fact currently and as guardian subsequent to her possibly becoming incapacitated; she would like to "put me on a retainer" or compensate me for being an assistant to her on an as-needed basis. How can we determine what might be a "fair" amount?
