I'm looking for info. For my friend. What we're doing is buying a do it your self divorce kit book from the book store. It's around 25 or 30 dollars.

If you have Legal Aid in your state call them. The will ask your income and if they can't help you there is other Agents that can help you.

Depending on the state that you live in, you can get a Do-it-yourself divorce packet from the county court clerk . After filling out the finacial statement, the judge may let you file without paying any court fees. I live in NY, and this is how I did my first divorce. I was financially unstable so the judge granted the divorce without me stepping foot inside a courtroom and with no out of pocket expenses. I would advise that you check with the County court clerk to see if this packet is available. If it is, don't worry there are very specific instructions to fill it out.

Yeah, I would look into the packet.

the do it your self divorces are good and cheap when there is nothing contested on either side. where they can figure out how to divide stuff, child support stuff and any alimony on their own.

if they can't

then thats where the lawyers and the costly divorces come into play

You have two options one is you can call legal aide and see is your eligiable for free legal services, you can find the number in the white pages under government. They go by your incom. You can also go on line under legal forms and click on your state for the forms that you will need to file for a non-contested divorce. You can also get the form for a wavier of payment. The wavier as well as the divorce papers have to be filed at the same time. On the wavier you will need to provide both of your incoms. If your not doing a non-contested divorce it is best to get an attorney. Legal aide can also help you with the divorce if it is contested.

Call Court services in your county
Ask them how you would get information on filing for a pro-se divorce with fees waived from the court.....DO NOT BUY THE DO IT YOURSELF DIVORCE PACKETS...it's all available for FREE AT THE COURT HOUSE ..so visit the court house early on and get familiar with the folks that can help you there....I did it...and even if you have to call around more than a few times to get to the right contact...it's worth saving THOUSANDS of dollars in RIP OFF attorney fees...

GOOD LUCK!
