IRA beneficiary

Can a married man or woman designate an unrelated person as beneficiary of his/her IRA without spousal consent?

No a husband nor a wife can leave an unrelated person or related person as beneficiary of his/her IRA with out spousal consent. The spounce is the one that would be entitled to half of the IRA in a divorce,and if one spounce died the IRA would go to the surviving spouce. You can check with your IRA and see if you can leave a second beneficiary if either spouce passed away.
