Lower child support payments

How do we get the court to lower child support payments when the father's income changes? The mother just took him to court and demanded a new financial affadavit which was provided, but the payment was not adjusted.

You must petition the court to Modify the Child Support Order. Good Luck

The courts use a child support worksheet to determine the amount of the payment. You could download the worksheet for your state to see if the court came up with a reasonable amount.

The main factors in determining the child support payment are income and number of overnights per year. If the court didn't reduce the payment based on income, you might consider trying to get more overnights with the child. That might reduce the child support payment.

Ruchele- do I have to get a lawyer to do so, or will I actually be able to accomplish anything filing it myself. I got all the forms from the court. I need this to be reduced in less than 30 days. There is no way we can pay it that fast, and if it isn't paid he will go to jail. They asked for more than he makes in a month BEFORE taxes.
