Marrying an illegal immigrant
My boyfriend from Ghana married a woman in NY for citizenship 4 years ago. The woman left shortly after the marriage so he never obtained citizenship. The marriage was never consummated and he hasnt heard from her for 3 years until recently. They both agree on getting divorced. How long will the divorce take if she signs the UD-7?
Now we want to get married for real. What can happen in this situation? Is the unconsummated marriage legally binding? Can he be deported? He lives in NY currently, and was here on a work visa which expired in 2006. What does all of this mean for us. How problematic can this be?
