Our house is in grandma's name, but we make the payments

We could not qualify for a loan at the time our house was for sale. My husband talked his grandmother into buying it on the condition we would make all the payments. We have made everyone for the last twelve years and they are always on time. This does not help our credit rating, and she gets all the interest write off for her taxes. However, she is now in her late 80's. She refuses to discuss anything about what will happen to this house when she dies. Even if she left this house to my husband, wouldn't we still have to qualify on a loan to keep it? There is about 65,000 still left on the original loan, and I doubt we would qualify since we already are paying on another home that my mother left to me. Short story...couldn't we still have to end up selling this house since I doubt she has mortgage insurance that pays off the loan when she passes on?

The only solution to this promblem is to have your grandma add on insurance that would pay the home off if she becomes deceased leaving you and your husband as benificary. You need to get this sorted out because if she barrowred the money for the home knowing that it was for the both of you then it needs to be settled. If ahe refuses to talk about it or do anything about it then if she ides the house would not go to you. You can tell her you will pay the difference in the payment for the insurance. Get her to make a will. Other wise consider that your just renting her house, because taht is really what you are doing. You might want to try to buy the home or a home as a first time home owner their easier to get and you can use your grandmother as a reference as paying your rent on time. You can also consider leasing the home from your grandmother with the option to buy. The money that you pay her would then go toward the purchance price at the end ot the lease.
