Previouse boss keeping last pay check& illegal workers who to report to?

I am from India, For a total of 6 years I have worked for someone, also from India, 80 to 90 hours a week with no over time pay. For most of that time I was paid under the table. At that time I didn't have a work permit; half of his employees are illegal in that way. Over the years I borrowed money, most of the money they paid me in cash they kept to repay my debt, I had to work where ever, when ever they said for as many hours as they said. Because of my debt I had to stay working for them. With out a work permit it is hard to find a job some where else. I now have a workers permit, I asked to be paid by check, was told I could only have a forty hour check but not to worry they will take care of the rest. They never gave me any overtime pay. I have quit. Right away they called me angry and cursing at me they said they were going to cut my legs off. I did call the police about that but I don't know what else to do. Now they won't give me my last pay check, saying they are keeping it for the money that I owe them. And they say they are going to take me to court for more. I want to pay back the very little I still owe but I need my pay for food and rent for my wife and little girl as well. Can they really do this? I want my past overtime, and my last check. I am so up set I am really thinking of reporting them for all the illegal workers they have that they are using them as cheep almost free labor; but don't know who to call. Please give some advise.

Have you been keeping track of the hours you have worked, what you have been paid for, etc? If so, you should contact the state labor board with any information and proof you have. The problem you may run in to is that you originally had no green card or work permit. You may not receive any money out of it, but you employer is legally entitled to have proof that all of their employees are legal. At the very least, they will be in a lot of trouble and won't be permitted to abuse anyone else in this matter.

My advice, Karma often comes back to bite you, as it will them. Better this life than the next. Get a restraing order if need be, and cut your loses and get a legal job, as a legal alien, pay your taxes and do what's right, and you will be fine.
