Responsible for Credit Cards?

My live in boyfriend used to buy me gifts with her credit card. We broke up three years ago and now he sent me a letter stating that I need to pay off the card or he'll file a police report. Am I in trouble or is he crazy?

I'll bet you're glad you broke up! First of all, since those were gifts you aren't responsible. Secondly, what is he crazy? Asking you to assume his debt is desperate, he must be running out of options. He needs to learn to manage his finances. You might do him a favor and recommend a debt counselor, but that's about all you should do. Good luck!

I think your boy is nuts. Unfortunaly if the cards are in your name, if you are on the accounts at all you will be held responsible just as much as him for any debt. I would check your credit report if you aren't sure. If he added you on after you have broken up, you may be able to call the credit card company and dispute him adding you to the account. Then make sure all 3 credit bureaus know that you are off the account, which can be a long process. Here is a great book to help you protect yourself.
