Under The table Renting Problems

Me and my friend were kicked out of this place we were renting.
I myself was kicked out early(4 days) while still on rent, my friend was in dept $300(1 month). It was the beginning of winter, We were force to live on the streets due to this and they have withheld 90% of our belongings which total around $3400 in value some priceless family heirlooms. Also they are holding the property of someone completely uninvolved. They did not inform their landlord or the government that they were receiving money from us. When we returned to claim our belongings including the very clothes we need to survive, we were physically threatened and verbally forced out of the house. We are now forced or being threatened
with police action to replace stolen property that we had no involvement
with.

Maybe you should talk to the police to see if you have any sort of recourse. It's hard when you can't prove anything, but if you stay calm and let them know that you just want your stuff that you have in the house you may be able to work something out. Then I guess you live and learn and never rent without a formal lease agreement again.

Here's the thing though, it was my best friends parents place never really thought anything bad would come of it, and our families knows exactly what went into the place.

As previously stated, an agreement in writing not only protects the lessor but also the lessee. It would have given you more opportunity to prepare for the eviction as it would have been done with a process as opposed to just saying "get out". The eviction process takes several months in some cases. You need to contact the police on your behalf to retrieve your belongings as it sounds like going at it alone will only create more problems or unnecessary confrontations.

Oh, I see. So the parents had some things stolen right, then they assumed it was you and your friend so they kicked you both out, but you really didn't steal anything and they want to hold your stuff until you give them back what was stolen. Is that right?

In that case, it would be best if you can talk to them. Come clean and pay them back if you stole something, if you didn't honestly take anything, then keep telling them. You still may have to get courts involved to get your stuff back.

ILLEGEAL....you didn't sign anything? they can't keep your stuff, it was nice of them to let you stay there and pay rent, but if they kcik you out, thay can't keep your things...even if you don't pay the reamining rent, no written agreement = no guarantee, you could probably take them to court to get your belongning back, at least threaten to do so, beacause if they didn't tell THIER landlord they were renting, they know they will be in trouble.

It was their own kid that did it, who is a pathological liar and spent some time on the streets due to heavy drugs, and their other teenager went through my belongings and stole my Mp3 player that I worked really hard to get and " lost it " on more than 1 occasion. Once I caught her using it, I retrieved it then but she got it again and she " lost it at a friends". we got blamed for anything bad that happened there.

Oh that sounds so complicated! I'm so sorry - it sounds like it's time to move on from these "friends" and I think that amanda is right - they can't keep your stuff. It's your word against theirs so you go to the police and see if you can get your stuff back.

That sounds like bad news. I would get your stuff and find a new place to live.
