what can my son's girlfriend do in this situtation?

My sons girlfriend will be 18 in May, her father & stepmother are physically abusive she was bruised in several places on Christmas Eve
'07 and kicked out if the house. She spent X-mas with our family. Her birth mother was out of town. Now she is staying with her. Her father owns his business and appears to be succesfull. He refuses to sign over custody to birth mother. So Kalie has no health insurance and her birth mom and stepdad can not afford out of pocket medical care. She was pushed into a corner of a piece of furniture and still has back pain. She is attending HS and working as a waitress. Does she have any recourse? I would like to see her dad pay her medical expenses, get her a decent used car (he has about 5) and at least pay her tuition to Jr. College. The home
is bad situation & she needed to get out anyway. The dad has a an arrest record and I am sure the stepmom does to. The stepmother has smoked crack in her presense, agruments turn physical, the language is really awful. Please advise. I assume when she turns 18 it will be to late and she will be on her own.

She can have her father arrested for assault. Nobody, including her father has the right to abuse her. It sounds to me that she pretty much been on her own for awhile and I applaud her for staying in school and working too. She sounds like she has her act together for someone going through all of this turmoil.
As far as medical attention is concerned, go to the emergency room whenever it is needed. Yes, she will be responsible for the bills however they cannot refuse treatment to anyone regardless of their ability to pay.

Since she is out of the house our main concern is future finances. She will graduate HS in May '08.
She needs a dependable vehicle, payment for medical & she wishes to attend a Jr. College in our area.
Can a court (especially with past circumstance's) require her father to pay? If she's attending school would he not be required to pay child support?

Depending on how the custody and child support stuff is written, he may or may not have to pay child support when she is over 18 and in school FT.

she can have him arrested for assault, that is not right and it never should be ok.

unless her back is in major major pain still, i would avoid the ER as that can get pricey without insurance.
