Wills

My childrens great grandfather died in January 2008. I do not speak with his family. They do not have my address or telephone number but we visited him often over the last 10 years. He told me he had a will but I never asked him what was in it. When he died in January 2008 my ex husband (his grandson) didnt tell us how do I find out what it contained? or if there was indeed one that existed? We just found out he died in july when we went to visit him he was in a senior citizens appartment.

Each State is slightly different but generally you can find wills in probate records. Will or no will the records involving all settlement of estates are kept in either probate court or other assigned court office a long time, often as long as 75 years.
