Its one of the hardest job in the service. Its a very selective process to get into the field and once you are in, you must pass very stressful profiecenies, shotting skills, being able to handle all type of weahter conditions for long hours and days ata time, before you can take what is known as the 'KIll shot'. Their motto is one shot one kill. You also learn from the start when they issue you your snipper rifle. "There are many rifles like this, but this one is mine" You will live with it all the time you are in Snipper School. You will learn how to clean it in the dark, fix jams in the dark. its easy to do it in the sunlight, but you will also need to do it in the black of night.

Gabe, you have at least five years before you can get in. As a former scout sniper, you don't pick the school, they pick you. A scout sniper MOS is 0317 which means your have to go through infantry training after boot camp. Sniper school isn't a cake walk and just because you get the MOS doesn't mean you'll be assigned as a sniper. The needs of the Corps come first. Just a few things that got me selected. Qualify as an expert on the range is boot camp. I shot two under perfect. Get your legs toned up because they ran everywhere during sniper school. Get to love bugs and sleeping under vegetation. After all that training I ended up in a recon unit jumping out of perfectly good flying C130's. Just remember it's not what you want that matters to the Corps. It's what the Corps needs that counts. Good luck.

You need to look at all your options. Im glad the Marines are on my side but I wouldnt want to be one. Its much easier to become a sniper in the Army. I was a Paratooper in the 82nd Airborne and trained with hundreds of Marines. Nice uniforms but a crappy job. If they tell you they like it they are either lieing or they are crazy. But they are very good at what they do. Killing...................
