About an old painting done in Germany in 1850

Back in the mid-1800's an ancestor painted a very large picture
which is probably worth quite a lot today. It was handed down
from the painter and his wife, my great-grandmother to my
grandparents and then their daughter who was my aunt. My
aunt's only son, passed it to me. Now a 2nd cousin in So. Africa
who carries the name of the painter thinks he should get it.
I disagree and want my daughter to have and then pass it on
to the great-grandson of my aunt.

Is there any way the 2nd cousin in S.Africa could possible lay
claim to it? He, by the way, has tons of money and only a niece
to pass it on to who lives in France. I want it to stay in the line
of descent of my aunt who lived in NY.

The painting and the hand-carved frame is of the Tyrolean Alps,
about 4 x 5 ft in size, are very well done and it is probably worth
quite a bit of money. I don't care about the money, only that it
be passed on in family. The guy trying to get it sure doesn't
need money - he is just greedy and trying to assert himself or
something for no good reason.

Thank you.

I don't think he has any right to it, it doesn't belong to him, even if he's related to the family, it's not in his possesion.
