LEONARDO DA VINCI

RAPHAEL OF URBINO
Painter and Architect

What can I say unique, my own personal art critique? That would be insulting the dead.

Oh Oh! This is BY FAR my favorite era other than mondern art. Sorry I know mostly about painting, so I'll go with that.

For my three, I choose one from Northern Europe, one from Italy and them my favorite from this time period.

Northern European renaissance is well known for their use of oil painting which dries much slower than acrylic paint, thus leading to an era of unbelievable realism and symolism. And the winner for most important artist in the Northern European renaissance is: Jan Van Eyck!

The Italian renaissance is known more for their techniques and advancements in depth perception and large scale frescos. So the artist I believe was most influential in this aspect is: Fra Angelico

Then the artist who is one of my favorites, someone who embodied the technologies and techniques of the time, but also did created visions that people would not appriciate until the days of Salvidor Dali - many centuries later. None other than: Hieronymus Bosh

Soon enough :)

He was so influential and so different for his time. A true revolutionary really compared to everyone around. Leonardo is one that art books teach as THE artist of the renaissance, but fact is he was not a great painter at all. The last supper was ruined by missing oil and water in the paint which costs millions to restore and the mono lisa he never finished.

BUT he was a revolutionary as an intellect no doubt. You're right, art is subjective - I like that dark creepy stuff - the ex-cheerleader go figure. lol.

Ah, and 2 things on that note, in an analysis it was found the the mona lisa is really smiling, and in more recent news, during a routine cleaning Mona Lisa was, for the first time, placed under mircoscopic examination and it was found that her "eyebrows" are not missing as always thought, mearly faded to near invisible.
