This abstract says between 200 and 400 billion, so maybe more like 50+ birds for every person, although most live at sea. There are so many freaking starlings here in the winter though. They show up in the fall, all brown and speckled, and then by the spring the tips of their feathers wear off, leaving them shiny and black and the fly north to mate when the zugenruhe kicks in.
