Can a employer search you vehicle

I recently started a new job. One of their policies is no weapons on property, but it is not gated or secured. I have a conceal carry permit to carry a gun. I am female and work second shift. So I have this for my protection, which is my second amendment right. So do they have the authority to search my vehicle? And if I let them and I keep my gun in my purse, they should have no right to search my purse. But if I refuse to let them search my car, I will be fired. Legally they can't fire me for having a gun in my car cause I'm legal to have it. And our governor passed a law in 2006 stating and employer can't stop me, unless parking lot is gated or secured. What are my rights here. And what action can I take if terminated. They are suppose to start random vehicle search

Your employer has no right whatsoever to search your personal property. The only thing they can do is call the police if they believe you are doing something illegale, and even they can't search your car without your permission or a warrent to do so.

Thank you so much I've been worrying about this all weekend. Been online researching I've contacted the NRA and Second Amendment Rights Foundations. I'm assuming they aren't in till tomorrow. I think I'll make appointment with lawyer tomorrow so I kow exactly what my rights are and what options I should take. I had a incident a couple of weeks ago with a car stopped on a foggy night in my lane with no lights on. It was a girl but her interior lights were on. I hollered at her that she needed to get her car out of the road cause someone was going to hit her cause I almost did. She just kept whining to help her. I just felt this situation wasn't right, So I told her I would pull over and help her. Stupid on my part I know. But I was getting my gun out just in case and sure enough here came a girl and guy out from behind a building. Well I hurried up and took off out of there. I've learned my lesson I will no longer stop for anyone other then to tell them I'll call 911. But I made the mistake and told a few coworkers about it. And it seemed like the next week a note was posted at work reinstating their policies of weapons on their property. I feel someone has told that I carry a gun. But I am legal. So I feel like I may be the first they want to check. So I really believe I need to see a lawyer so I know if I can refuse their search and if I can take legal action against them. Thanks again so much. Penny

I have never heard anyone talk about an employer searching a car. But the truth about this is if you say no you will be fired. Just like if you are stoped on the road by the police and they want to search your car, sure you can say no but you go to jail for not letting them and the matter is taken up in court and usually dismissed. Why is it we have rights to say no but if we do say no we could spend the night in jail, end up in court, have fines we can' t pay. kIt isn't right.
You need to get a lawyer and start looking for another job. I wouldn't be able to go to work with this kind of issue hanging over my head every day. People at work need to mind there own business. Please persue this legally. Your work enviroment will be stressful and it isn't worth it but your rights are and you go for it. What a shame. Good luck.

EVERYONE OF YOU ARE WRONG! I am contracted to the DOD so I kinda know this stuff your employer can and DOES have the right to search all amployees and their vehicles prior to and before exiting the property.... the employer is however restricted to where and what they may search for, depending on the kind of bussiness it is and what the commodity manufactured or produced , its kinda stick but for instance if you manufacture guns, you employer has the right to make sure your arent taking a new one home with you, with would allow a search of a purse or brief case, but would NOT allow the search of an ash tray........
