Start acting somewhere. There are alot of local theatres around Denver, and I assume they are around where you live.
I know someone that in his 50s decided he wanted to act, and he started doing all these plays with his church. Granted, its a big church and large productions.
The point is, to just start. see where it goes...

Helping a friends dream
I just found out about a dream my friend has to act. She borrowed my video camera and made a tape asking for help. Who can I send it to? There are so many shows about helping people, but I'm sure they are swamped with people doing the same thing. What would be the best way to submit it for her? She is a single mom who works 2 jobs so she doesn't have the $$ to take acting lessons or pay a talent agent. Any suggestions?

Since it's free, she should submit it everywhere! You never know who is watching! She should also set up a blog or website with a very professional design (you can use a template). Include a resume and head shots. Tell her to write lots of great content everyday about her passion for acting as good, new content will help her with the search engines.
I agree she needs to start acting even if it's at a community theater. The more people you know the more you can network with. She can also join websites like meetup.com and find other people in her are that are interested and network there. I'm not sure if LinkedIn.com would work for that field, but it's worth checking out. It's also a career networking website.
Post a link to her blog everytime she posts her video somewhere! What a good friend you are - if I think of anything else I'll let you know.
