As far as the shedding, aside from having your dog groomed regularly and brushing him every day, there is not a whole lot you can do. There are different kinds of brushes you can use, perhaps if you try several kinds you'll find one that works better. In addition to the brushing you might get a shedding blade, that might help. Also, love gloves make it easier and more convenient to brush your pet. I have heard that fatty acid supplements help to keep a dog's hair from breaking but I have never personally tried this and I would check first with a vet.
