When you file for 2007, you will file as married jointly to get the full benefits from the IRS. You will sign your return and put on your husband's signature line deceased with the date. There should be no need to send in a copy of the death certificate because the IRS gets data from Social Security. I am assuming you did notify Social Security and receive the death benefits they pay. Be sure to contact your husband's employer of any address change if you moved since his death. Please accept my condolences as you go through this experience.
