I have a checking account that I only have a debit card for. I don't have any checks to write because I have a habit of being overdrawn.

This way I can only spend the money that I have. My bank makes my deposits available immediately so it is very handy. The thing they don't tell you is that if you use that money you will get charged overdraft charges, so the money really isn't available. Example: Saturday I deposited $178 and Sunday I went to a trade show for my work . I used my card 7 times for gas, ciagarettes, food, cash etc. Now on Tuesday morning I have 7 - $ 20 overdraft charges because my money really wasn't credited until Monday"s business. I have spoke with them numerous times and they say that they are doing everything perfectly legal. I believe that this is just a way to charge my account and its wrong. Can you give me any insight on this

Sorry, but I think that most banks here have a notice on the window that states 'deposits made after 3pm on Friday will be not be credited to the account until Monday business hours'. That is because all that works on Saturday are the tellers...not the bookkeeping/accounting people. So...that would be correct; even though you deposit your funds, it really isn't available for your use until it is credited to your account on Monday morning. I guess your only options would be to get to the bank before 3pm on Friday, if possible, to make your deposit...or run by the teller window on Saturday morning and withdraw cash for your weekend expenses.

I do not use checks either just my debit card. I was getting overdraft charges all over the place and I started printing my statement online every time I went there and I began to fight the bank charges and get my money back from them. There is a rule in banking ... in a day of transactions the deposits get recorded first. with my print out I had times and dates and many times I could prove with this evidence that they were ripping me off. I have found that credit unions are less likely to play those games because they are smaller and community friendly. The big banks pay people to research ways to rip us off.
