Out side lighting

I'm fitting a out side and have hit problem! when removeing the exsisting light i noticed the cable colours were red/black/earth and yellow! the yellow cable was connected to a red cable comeing from the sensor. the fitting information there is only a 3 block for l/n/e no were for the yellow! when i fitted the new light it did not work could this have something to do with the yellow not being fitted! help please.
