SCHOOL VIOLENCE

MY SON IS IN THE 9TH GRADE AND HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH BEING BULLIED DURING HIS PAST SCHOOL YEARS. AS FAR AS I KNOW HE HASN'T HAD MANY PROBLEMS THIS YEAR, UNTIL TODAY. HE RECEIVED A MESSAGE ON MYSPACE THREATENING HIM WITH PHYSICAL VIOLENCE FOR MONDAY'S SCHOOL DAY. I AM GOING TO THE SCHOOL TO TALK WITH THE PRINCIPAL MONDAY. HOWEVER I FEAR I WILL GET NO HELP, AS I HAVE NOT IN THE PAST. HIS PREVIOUS PRINCIPAL ALWAYS SEEMED TO TURN IT AROUND AND BLAME HIM FOR HIS PROBLEMS. I AM JUST AT WITTS END. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE I CAN DO. CAN I GO TO THE POLICE WITH THIS ALSO? WHAT SHOULD I DO? PLEASE HELP? I FEAR FOR MY SON'S SAFETY AS WELL AS HIS MENTAL STATE!

Your son probably won't like this, but try contacting the other child's paretns, although this might egg the other child on even more, he might not follow through with theses actions, as most children at this age still fear their parents' punishment, also, is there an older male relative at the school who wouldn't mind sort of "watching out"?

I think making the principal aware of the situation is a good thing . . . the situation sucks, but i think it is important to make some school official aware of the problem / situation.

threats of violence is a serious thing . . . we just don't know the real intentions of the threats.

I would get the police involved....did you see the story on the news where a teenage girl was harrassed online and she committed suicide? Search for it on CNN. With all the disappointing school violence reports on the news the principle should take this very seriously. A meeting should be set up with the parents and child involved so you are sure all parties are aware and held responsible. Good Luck.

I AGREE WITH ANGIE, I WOULD GET THE POLICE INVOLVED AND POSSIBLY LOOK AT FILING A RESTRAINING ORDER.
