Silver penny

I found a 1919 silver wheat penny stuck to the bottom of my shoe.My daughter put it to a magnet and it stuck.Is this a fake penny?

Your penny is more than likely NOT a fake. There was a time period during wars that copper, brass, and nickel were needed for the war effort. During this time, the government switched to steel pennies. I am not sure of the exact dates this happened or the value of these coins but I have read this info in history books and currently am in possession of a 1930 & 1956 Steel penny. I hope this helps.
