My sister in law was in the Navy and my sister is bringing home an air force boy for Christmas. As for me, I was too liberal - military boys never liked me :)
I defiantly think that having someone close to you serve time in the military causes you to feel empathy for the people that give their lives for our country. Everyday when they are stationed somewhere else in the world, and you hear about soldiers dying, you think it could just have easily been your family member or friend.
I may not agree with the war, but you have to have the utmost respect for the military families and what they go through.

The Military and You
Here's a question for you all, how many of you have served or are close to someone who has served in the military? Right now, something like 1% of the nation serves or has a family member who's served in the military. Members of Congress who've served in the military are at an all time low. And from my perspective, many of those who supposedly put the military on a pedestal, haven’t served and have done all they could to stay out of the service. What do you think? Does having served also cause one to think more carefully about putting troops in harm's way?

That's the thing that gets me. Seems to me the best way to support the troops is to keep them out of harms way. I was in the service and I and a number of my friends who also served are dead set against this war. Yet, you have all these right wing pundits (who avoided the draft in their time) calling people who've served yet are deadset against it traitors. Irks me to no end.
And good for you for being liberal. Liberal women I dated in college are a big reason I never made a career out of the service.
