A cold sore is caused by a virus. Once you get one, you will have them off and on the rest of your life. They can be triggered by stress, or by being around someone else that has an active sore. There are a few creams available in the drug stores. Carmex and Blistex are a couple that come to mind. The best way to handle it is to keep the area moist (even Vasoline will help) until the sore goes down. Most go away in a week to ten days. Try not to pick at it.

People who take aspirin and Tylenol (acetaminophen) suppress their body's ability to produce antibodies to destroy the cold virus. Make the chicken soup hot and spicy with plenty of pepper. The spices will trigger a sudden release of watery fluids in the mouth, throat, and lungs.

Wash your hands frequently and try to keep them away from your nose and eyes.Try to drink at least eight to ten glasses of water a day. Stop all milk products.

Eating refined sugars weakens your immune system and promotes yeast overgrowth. zinc lozenges reduce the severity and duration of cold symptoms, particularly a sore throat. Extra vitamin C is also helpful.
