What is the best way to get traffic to a brand new blog?

My blog is almost a month old and so far I am the only one who has visited it. I've submitted to the major search engines, added URL to DMOZ.org, put a link on Twitter and I'm still not getting any traffic. None. It's a blogger blog if that makes a difference.

You need to create lots of good content that people are searching for. Then you need to promote it as much as possible. You can promote your site by commenting on other blogs that are similar to yours. When you comment you need to give good information. If it is another blogger blog then you will automatically get a link back to your blog if you are logged in when you comment. If it is not a blogger blog, most will ask you to put in your blog address when you leave a comment. That will give you another link to your website. All the links you can get going to your website will help.

Then you can write articles and bookmarks at websites like InfoPirate.org , Delicious.com , Digg.com and many others. That will help bring a little traffic.

Tell all your friends on Facebook about your website.

The most important thing is that you need to continue to create good content that people want to read. It also takes some time for a website to "mature." That means that the search engines won't take you seriously immediately. Give it some time and continue creating links back to your websites by commenting at other blogs and creating bookmarks. It is also helpful to put links from one of your posts to your other posts. Each one of those internal links will help a reader that is interested in your content click to read more.

Hope that helps!

For each post that you write on your blog, you are going to want to do keyword research. You can use Google's free tool for this. You want to find keywords with good traffic but low competition.

You can ping each post that you make. You will want to create backlinks to each blog post and also to the main page. This will help you to rank well in the search engines.

When you first create a new blog, it takes a little time to get much traffic to it but there are some easy steps you can take to build up a readership to your blog.

The first thing is to have interesting, useful or entertaining content that would appeal to a large audience. This is the key to getting people to return to your blog again and again every time you post new content.

Here are some easy and free ways to promote your blog:

Insert a signature in your emails with a link to your blog. Most email programs let you set up a signature that will be automatically inserted into every outgoing email you send.

Put a link in your profile on any site that you have a profile page, such as right here on WebAnswers or any social networking sites that you belong to like Facebook, MySpace, etc.

Use twitter regularly. Send out a new tweet every time you add a new post to your blog.

Use sites like Del.icio.us, Digg, Reddit, Stumbleupon, etc. to spread the word about what you're blogging about.

Interact with other bloggers. Search out and read blogs that are similar or complimentary to yours and link to them. Leave comments to their posts and your comment will link back to your page if it's on the same platform. For blogs based at other domains, leave a link to your blog in your comment.

Seek out discussion forums related to the topic of your blog and occasionally work in a link to it. Be careful with this though as it can be considered spam if your main purpose is posting links. Concentrate on leaving relevant posts and work in a link when you can.

Post links to your blog wherever you can on the web. If you know anyone with online content, ask them for a link. Write articles about your blog subject and post them to article websites such as ezinearticles, helium, hubpages, associated content, etc. and include a link whenever you can. All writing sites have profile pages that you can put a link on also.

As you can see there are a lot of ways to promote and link back to your blog. By using these methods and posting fresh, new, quality content frequently, you will see an increase in traffic to your site.

Along with all the excellent answers you've received, put you blog on your profile here. I have a new blog as well, and many of my views come from WebAnswers.
